Sweetly Sally

real never goes out of style

A Different Perspective

January 19, 2018

The other day, I came across this quote and it really changed the way I thought…

“If you stopped yourself every single time you were about to say, ‘I have to’ and changed it to ‘I get to,’ it might change your entire experience.”

How incredible is that?

Am I the only one who finds myself complaining far too often? I always find myself complaining about something little or silly, saying, “Ugh, I have to go to this one class today.” Instead, I should be rejoicing that I am ABLE to go to class. I should be THANKFUL that I am blessed enough to have an education!

I’ve realized that there is something good to find in every situation. Instead of saying, “Man, I have to go to work today,” maybe switch up your perspective and say, “Wow, I get to go to work today.” There is always something to be thankful for. Instead of dreading work, you should be thankful and glad that you have a job and that you are physically and mentally able to work.

Complaining is so not in style and frankly, it never was. What can you gain from complaining? I would love to hear what you come up with. I really couldn’t come up with anything. Complaining just puts you in a bad mood. There is NOTHING good that comes out of complaining besides the little pity party that you have when you feel bad about yourself- and those are not fun.

I want to challenge you to change your perspective. Stop complaining, stop feeling bad for yourself, and start living graciously and gratefully. There is so much to be thankful for, not just at this time of year.

I have definitely had a past with complaining. It’s like a snowball effect. Once you start, you really can’t stop and it ends really badly. At the end of the day, your life is good. Your life could definitely be worse and you have it better than you think. No more comparing, no more complaining. You never know what someone is going through, so comparing is just silly and not worth it.

“If you stopped yourself every single time you were about to say, ‘I have to’ and changed it to ‘I get to,’ it might change your entire experience.”

Change your perspective so that you can change your experience. Change the bad thoughts in your head to the good thoughts. Treat others well and be kind in all situations. You don’t HAVE to do anything, but rather, you GET to do all the things in your day because you are so blessed by the good Lord above!

I love this!! It is so true, I too often find myself complaining about stuff that is not even worth wasting a breath over & if I really think about it, they are stuff to be thankful for not to complain about!!! Thank you so much for sharing:)

This is such a good reminder! I love the reminder to find something good in each day. I’ve been thinking that more and more as I teach. If I don’t find something positive in each day, then what good am I passing off to my students?
    Love these pants too!

Totally agree with this! I’m often complaining and end up in bad mood, hahaha.
Thanks for the reminder! Anyway, I love your pants so much!! :))
