It is only the fifth week of school and I am already overwhelmed and I can’t seem to get organized (problem solved). All of my assignments have been handed to me and I don’t know how to do them yet. Cue breakdown. Sound familiar?
It seems like the first few weeks of school are always the most stressful because we are getting used to a new environment, new classes and new people. While we are trying to adapt to our new surroundings, teachers seem to think it is the best option to tell us about every single assignment that we will have in thirty minutes. Can you say overwhelming? Although this can be kind of annoying, I guess I would rather have my assignments upfront versus one week before they are due. Teachers aren’t too bad. Let’s give them more credit.
I recently had one of these breakdowns where I was hyperventilating-crying to my mom on the phone because I was so overwhelmed and I was homesick. After I had my good cry, I decided to take action so that I wouldn’t be miserably stressed for the rest of the week (and the semester).
After some thought, I decided to make a calendar of everything: my assignments, my tests, my projects, my functions, my school schedule, my class schedule, etc. Because I knew pretty much everything that was going to be due, I decided to make a Google Calendar. Here’s why it’s awesome:
You can create a separate calendar for every class.
I think it is so nifty that I can create a calendar for each of the classes I am in. Therefore, I have six calendars because I have six classes.
The calendars are color-coordinated.
I absolutely love color-coordination, so this just makes me happy inside. Each class has a specific color, so each assignment therefore has the corresponding color to match the calendar.
You can set reminders and goals.
Most of my assignments that are due are projects, so they technically aren’t due for many weeks (or months) in advance. On my Google Calendar App on my phone, I can set reminders that act as goals. If I want to get to a certain benchmark for a project by next Tuesday, I just stick that in my calendar and I mark it off when I reach that goal. How amazing is that?!
You can keep track of all of your classes.
Personally, I think it is difficult when all of my professors use a different website to post homework. Instead of worrying about deadlines between websites, I just streamlined it by putting every assignment for every class in my calendar. Now I am not as confused and I get my assignments done.
You can share the calendar with others.
Once I got all of my information and assignments on the actual calendar, I shared it with my friends in the class to make life easier.
The calendar can be accessed anywhere.
Because Google has a cloud system, I can get the calendar anywhere and it is always updated. I love this because I can know what’s due when anywhere.
Y’all might think I’m so crazy that I made a post on an online calendar, but hey, it works! It stopped my tears and frustration and I’d say that’s a success! I am not sponsored by Google and I was not sponsored to write this post. (Although, how cool would it be to be sponsored by Google?!). I just saw something that worked for me and now I hope it works for you! There are other calendar websites and apps out there that are similar, but this one works wonderfully for me.
I hope college for you can be a little less stressful with this calendar!
