Eating healthy in college is a real struggle. First of all, there are always people wanting to get ice cream, second of all, I crave ice cream all the time so the combination is not good for trying to stay relatively healthy by not eating ice cream every day. I have figured out that I need to always have a healthy snack on hand just in case I am tempted to get a scoop of that super good mint chocolate chip ice cream that you know I love.
I have some staple snacks that I always keep in my dorm room/backpack just in case I have those “I am super hungry but just ate dinner” days.
Fruit // Fruit can be hard to keep in your dorm room because it kind of goes bad fast, but I like to buy green bananas so that when they turn that perfect yellow with a tint of green, I am ready to eat them! I also like to freeze my bananas in slices and eat them frozen as a snack…Don’t make fun of me until your try it.
Triscuits // Oh my goodness, yum. I actually really love these things. Embarrassingly enough, I just bought a family sized box of these suckers and finished the whole thing in three days time. I am so very embarrassed and I can’t believe I just shared that with y’all. Whatever. No ragrets. These crackers are good plain, but you can also top whatever ya feel on these and they still taste super good. The ingredient list is also super short, so go Tricuits!
Cheerios // This year, I have really become one of those late night snacker people. I love having a bowl of cheerios at night, so whether this be qualified more as a meal than a snack, I love my cheerios and I always have a box on hand.
Quest Bars // You might have heard about these from other websites or whatever, maybe not, but I love these. I actually tried these a year or so ago and absolutely hated them! Maybe it’s an acquired taste, but now I love them. They are essentially protein bars, so they can be eaten after a workout, too, which is nice. My favorite flavors are Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, S’mores, Chocolate Chunk (is that the right name? maybe?), Cookies and Cream, and Cinnamon Roll. Yummy.
Greek Yogurt // I love buying plain Chobani greek yogurt. I like to eat this as a snack randomly. Please do not eat this plain though because it will taste nasty. I put a packet of stevia and a little bit of vanilla extract to make it taste better without all of the processed sugar. As a personal choice, I like to put some rainbow sprinkles in my yogurt to make it more fun… I guess that’s a weird thing to do?
So, yup, those are my essentials in my snack bin. I have some more like vanilla almond butter, rice cakes, chips and salsa (whole grain chips of course), and other yummy food, but I didn’t include those in the list with long descriptions of my feelings towards them because frankly, I didn’t feel like it and I don’t know, they are just more of pantry staples more than anything. I hope that you enjoyed taking a peek into my favorite healthy snacks!
