If you are like me and you are so excited for new starts, new adventures, a new school, then you might be packing for your freshman year of college already! At this time last year, I was already shopping for my dorm and I wanted to have everything I needed a month before I actually needed it. Of course after all of the packing and planning, did I forget to pack some things? Yes. Did I pack way too much? Yes. Do I want you to make the same mistake? No, so here is my advice!
First of all, clothes. I did a post here about clothes, so you can read more about that, here. In fewer words, do not bring everything that you think you will need. You will then just end up with too much stuff.
As for appliances, definitely bring a microwave and a mini fridge if you are allowed! I really liked having one in my dorm, and I could keep some snacks in there!
Two sets of sheets
Decorative Pillows (optional)
Body Pillow (a must!)
So here is the deal with bedding. I changed my sheets every one and a half weeks, so when you are doing laundry, you can change your sheets, so make sure to have at least two sets of sheets. I didn’t need any more than two sets, though. As far as a mattress topper goes, I guess mine was really uncomfortable and everyone hated it. I, on the other hand, slept like a baby every single night, so I wouldn’t know. Make sure to get a comfy one, though! For me, I found about a body pillow a couple of months into the school year. My pillows kept on falling off of my bed and then onto the ground, which was gross, and then I bought a body pillow to shove in that annoying gap! This, let me tell you, was a game changer. After I got this body pillow, I really do think that I slept better!
Other Bathroom necessities
For the bathroom necessities, some of these things are a given, well, most of them are, but make sure to have shower shoes. Not having shower shoes is kind of gross and actually, just walking around the bathroom without shoes on is gross, so always wear shoes! I also found that I only needed two towels. I had a bath wrap that secured with velcro for my body, so my towels were mainly just for my hair. I did laundry every week, so two towels lasted me for one week. I originally brought about five towels and they ended up just taking up space!
Storage for under the bed
Organizers for your drawers
Carpet ( so that the room is homier)
This last list is kind of random, but these are some things that I found to make a difference in my dorm! I was short on space in my dorm, so if you don’t use it right now at home, just don’t bring it to school with you. If you really need it, someone from home can send it to you! Also, make sure to pack plenty of stamps and stationery! You never know when you will have to write a thank you note!
