Sweetly Sally

Geneva, Switzerland | Day 19

June 23, 2016

Hey everyone! We sadly left the small village of Gimmelwald, Switzerland this morning at 7:00AM. We rode the gondola down to catch the train because we decided to head to Geneva, Switzerland!

Confession: I totally thought that Geneva is the place that Princess Diaries took place in, but I was wrong… It was set in Genovia, a made up place. I was so sad when I found out this fact.

Anyways, after a long morning of traveling and switching trains, we ended up in Geneva. We were thinking of going to other cities in Switzerland because we have a train pass, but we landed on Geneva because of its proximity to Montreux, our end destination.

Geneva wasn’t what I expected it to be. Geneva is a Swiss city, but all I could think of was France. Because of its proximity to France’s border, all of the architecture looks similar to France’s buildings. Most of the people there also speak French. It was a very odd encounter. I was definitely confused while I was in this city.

IMG_2337I was also expecting this city to be smaller and not have such a “big city” feel. I think that I thought this honestly because I was picturing Princess Diaries in my head- I know, so embarrassing.

After an hour or two were spent in Geneva, we hopped on the train (after missing the first one) and headed two hours to Montreux.

Holy cow, Montreux is absolutely beautiful. I’m sure that y’all are tired of me saying that every place I visit is stunning and gorgeous, but it’s true! I can’t get over how spectacular it is! There are so many perspectives and there is so much culture to be observed and learned!

We finally got some wifi in our hotel, The Fairmont, so we hung back for a while to catch up in the social media world- emails, Instagram, twitter, Facebook, etc. At about 5:30 we decided to head out to find some dinner.

We had a little bit of trouble finding a place to eat dinner. While we got some good pictures while wandering, it took us a long time to find somewhere that even looked open. Our problem is that every restaurant we saw was either empty or closed. It was really strange, but on our way back, as we were backtracking searching for more restaurants, we saw a crowded restaurant and took a chance. It ended up being an Italian restaurant called “Le Rouvenaz” (Rue du Marché 1, 1820 Montreux). Turns out it has an attached hotel, ice cream shop and wine bar.

IMG_2354I ate some pasta and it was cooked perfectly. It was an awesome meal (per usual) and we thoroughly enjoyed it, especially after a long day of traveling. By the time we left, the restaurant was totally packed and every other restaurant around was also packed. I guess that out problem before is that people like to eat late here. We are just early eaters I guess!

When we left dinner, it was already pouring outside, so we just headed back to the hotel to work on blog posts and videos! I am so excited for tomorrow’s adventure!

(Only the very first picture is from Geneva. The rest were taken in Montreux.)

I have been wanting to go to Genava for quite some time now. In fact, I just said to my boyfriend the other day that we had to go there at some point during the next two years. I have heard so many great things about the city. And your pictures and post only make me want to go even more now!

I really liked Geneva, but I personally liked Montreux more! I didn’t really get to see a lot of the city because we were there for a few hours :(
