The other day I was on twitter and I read something that was very relevant in my life. The tweet read something like “if there is any love in the relationship, there has to be some degree of sacrifice.” Thinking back to that quote, I think that it resonates so much with me. I’m not sure where I saw this, what account, but you can find evidence of this everywhere you look. Love is sacrificial.
In friendships, when you love your friend, you make sacrifices. In marriage, you make sacrifices because you love your spouse. When someone you love is sick, you make sacrifices to make things better. Jesus did just the same for us. He sacrificed His life for us by dying on the cross for our sins. Love is sacrificial. I never have really thought of this until now, but it is so relevant and now I think that yes, it is so obvious!
I think that in life, if someone or something is important enough to you, it is crucial that you make a sacrifice. I know that sacrifices are not always what we think is the best option, but just looking at what Jesus did for us- sacrificing His life for us- shows us how strong it can be.
A sacrifice can come in any shape or form. It can be taking time out of your day to help your mom clean up the kitchen. It can be helping your brother film a video for 10 minutes. It can be helping your dad by watching him build a fire. The small acts of sacrifice might not mean that much to you, but they could mean a whole lot more to someone else. You don’t know who you are impacting.
Sacrificing doesn’t have to just come in the form of loving a person. It can be for yourself. Sacrificing your friendships might be better for you if your friends are toxic. Sacrificing those cookies might translate to you loving your body and wanting to nourish it. Sacrifice can be anywhere. Small little changes, literally, anything, can be sacrificial. Love is sacrificial. If you love something or someone, the sacrifice is worth it.
So go out into the world and take a few minutes out of your day to sacrifice out of love for someone else or something else.
