My happiness should not be dependent on anything. My happiness and joy should not come in whether or not someone tells me I’m pretty or I’m ugly. Whether I am rich and poor. Whether I have designer clothes or Target clothes. Whether I make good grades or bad grades. It shouldn’t even depend on the presidential election. Yeah, I went there- sorry not sorry.
By putting my identity in these things, I’m just waiting to be let down and disappointed.
When I am happy because of God and how good He is, I will always be joyful and happy. I don’t have to let those materialistic things define me and determine my joy and my emotions. Having worldly desires is never fulfilling and it won’t ever be satisfied- it might lead to temporary happiness, but it will never be enough and it will never quench that craving for something more.
When our identities are found in Christ, we can have that thirst be quenched by the Living Water and we don’t have to live in fear of the future or what others say about us. We will be satisfied and we will not be shaken. I am joyful because He won the battle and He saved Me- a sinful person who deserves nothing.
He lifts us up with His grace and understanding and love so that we can be joyful and that is the reason we should be joyful. We need to find the true meaning of joy before we can truly be satisfied.
