Whether you are single or you’re in a relationship, this post is for you.
We all know that it is important to be constant in prayer, no matter who you are. Prayer is such a powerful tool that works wonders. God hears our prayers and prayers serve as a communication tool for us to God.
Although I do not have a husband, or even a potential one for that matter, I still make it a point to pray for my future husband, wherever he might be.
Paul preaches in Ephesians 6:18 that we should pray for one another.
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
This doesn’t mean that we just have to pray for our friends and family, but we can pray for our future lives and the people in our future.
We all have hopes and dreams. We have those fairytale dreams of what our future will hold, what our lives will be like, what our future husbands will be like. Tell me I’m wrong. It’s just part of being a girl. We go through imagining life with a certain guy, wondering if he is the one.
We get absorbed in our thoughts and dream of the wedding day, the married life, the future.
I have been guilty of this, and I still am guilty of this. I am such a dreamer and I love looking towards the future. With the future, the possibilities are endless. Afterall, God is limitless!
I started praying for my future husband when I was about a freshman in college. I read this book and realized the importance of praying for him.
Why do I pray for him?
I pray for my future husband because I know that God answers prayers.
I pray for future husband because I am preparing my heart for his.
I pray for future husband because I know that prayer can change hearts.
I pray for future husband to encourage him.
How do I pray for Him?
When I began praying for my future husband, the prayers started out small and slowly grew in size. I started out praying for the general things, mainly that he knew the Lord and that he loved the Lord.
As time went on, I started to write down my prayers, started to find books and look up wisdom on what to pray for.
To me, praying for my future husband is making the future so much sweeter. If you knew that your future husband was praying for you, already caring for you, wouldn’t that warm your heart? I don’t know who my future husband is, but I do know that he will be a gift from God and that he will be the man that I’ve been praying for.
I might not even meet my husband for 10 years, I might have met him last week, or maybe I’ve known him my whole life. I really don’t know, but that’s where my faith and trust in the Lord comes in.
To pray for my future husband, I pray for him what I pray for myself.
What I strive to be, that’s what I pray for my future husband. I pray for him to have eyes to see how Jesus sees. I pray for him to have a softened heart. I pray for him to be slow to anger. I pray for him to love the Lord more than he loves me.
It can be so easy for us to get caught up in what we think our ideal guy should be like: Blue eyes, brown eyes, tall, short, brown hair, blonde hair. Not only do we get caught up in what ideal guy’s external appearance looks like, but we get caught up in what he has to be like.
It’s important to remember that nobody is perfect and people let you down. Although you might be praying for your future husband, it doesn’t automatically mean that your marriage is going to be 100% perfect all the time.
While I’ve been praying for my future, I’ve been preparing my heart for Him.
I’ve been growing closer to the Lord, I’ve been trying to be a better version of myself, and I’ve been trying to work on some things in my life. For example, patience, honestly, love, ministry, etc.
What do I pray for?
You can pray for anything. Prayer is limitless and there are billions of things you can pray for. You can pray for wisdom, you can pray for his heart, you can pray for determination, or you can pray for whatever trial he is in right now.
Bottom line, I pray for my future husband and I think that you should too.
Not only will you be investing in your future, but God will be working in your heart and your future husband’s heart. While I have no idea if I’ve even met my future husband or not, and I have no idea when God will put him in my life, I don’t have to be afraid and I don’t have to worry, and neither do you. God has someone crafted specifically for you. He has someone that will push you closer to Him. In the meantime, to invest in your future, I encourage you to pray for your future husband, even if the occurrence is once a year. I love y’all and I hope you have a great day today!
