Lately, I’ve felt as if I have no time. I feel like I have no time to do anything. There is so much to do and so little time. It seems like everything circles around time. Everything is a time crunch.
I am leaving in a matter of days for college, and I could not be more stressed. I have so much to pack, so much to do, and believe it or not, I still have some graduation presents to hand out to my friends. I also have to organize what I need to buy up at school and I also need to organize basically my whole room because it’s a disaster.
This is where time management comes into play.
Time is so difficult.
You are always running out of time yet, when you have time, you have nothing to do. It’s just so annoying. After just finishing high school, I have had some experience with time. Well now that I say that, we all have had experience with time, in one way or another. We all have had those moments where we don’t have enough time, or where we have too much time on our hands. It’s tough. But after dealing with time issues for a while, I have some tips that help me when I’m on a time crunch.
Make a List
Making lists is my favorite thing to do. I love grabbing a pink or neon green Post-It note and jotting down what I need to do for the day. I usually slap down the Post-It in my planner and write down, in a fun color of course, what I need to get done. I make lists of what I need to do for the day and for the week and sometimes even the month. These lists help me stay organized, and the Post-Its add some color into my planner! I also sometimes stick those lists on my mirror if I really have something urgent, which isn’t that often, because I am only a college student.
Give yourself more time than you think you need
For me, this is a big one for me. I always think that I have enough time to complete a task, and it usually ends up taking longer than planned. Of course. Isn’t that always how it works out? Anyways, when I am super busy, I give myself extra time because I know the task will run a little late. And by giving myself extra time, this brings me to me next tip.
Keep your schedule simple
Because I am going away to college, a lot of friends want to hang out and have dinner and come over to my house. As much as I would love to see them, sometimes I just have to say no. I do still see them, but I need to make sure that I have my priorities set straight. If I think that I can really get something done quickly or push off something to the next day, I go out with my friends. But I don’t hang out with them every single night, when I should be working on my projects or I should be packing.
Have some down time
When I have a lot to do and not enough time, I get very stressed out. I am a very punctual person as it is, so I like to have everything done way earlier than it should be, so I get stressed when I am running out of time. To make sure I’m not working all the time or putting all of my energy into my projects, I make sure I rest and relax every so often. I either play with my dog, read a magazine, make some cookies, read a book, or listen to music. Just do something that can get your mind off of your project for about 30 minutes and then jump back into your project, and hopefully you won’t be as stressed out!
Seriously, just make sure to remember to go to sleep. Sleep is kind of essential to function, so I would recommend going to sleep at a decent hour.
Get up Early
Tying into my last pointer, when you get the chance to go to sleep at a decent hour, try getting up earlier than you usually would. I recently just went to the beach a few times last week to watch the sunrise and I got up at 6:00, sometimes earlier. Sure, you might at the time not like the idea of getting up early, but once you’re up, you honestly feel like you can do anything. When I get up early, especially when everyone’s still asleep in my house, I can go do things with no distractions, and it rocks. It’s just so refreshing. And by the time it’s 9:00, you feel as if it’s already lunch time and you’ve already gotten so much accomplished! And don’t you agree that when you sleep really late, you feel as if you’ve wasted the day away? I don’t know, maybe it’s only me!
Ditch your phone
Yes, I do admit this is very difficult, but when you’re in a time crunch, sometimes, the best thing to do is to ditch your phone, put twitter on hold, and stop updating your Facebook status. Social media can be so very distracting, and, as I am writing this blog post when I should be packing, I am showing you that the internet can be distracted. Sorry I’m pot calling the kettle black as of right now, but I promise I’m going to go pack once I finish this! Hey, this blog post is number one on my to do list! But once you are not distracted, time flies and you get a lot accomplished!
That was my last and final pointer/tip, so I hope that these pointers help y’all out! Now I am off to pack up basically all of my clothes!
Thank you for visiting my blog and staying to read! I would love to hear from you! Do you have any other pointers that I missed?
