The first day of school is the best day of school. I love the season that comes with starting a new year. I love the hustle of buying new pencils, the excitement of picking out a new pencil case, and the anxiousness of seeing your friends- new and old.

To me, the month of August is correlated to back to school time. Even after I graduate, I know that I will always get a little giddy when August approaches.
On top of buying new school supplies, getting your schedule, and counting down the days until school starts (only me?), another exciting facet of going back to school is the first day outfit.
Growing up, I had a school uniform, so I didn’t have to plan an outfit for the first day of school. Once I got to high school, I didn’t have a uniform, rather I had a “dress code.” My dress code was that girls had to wear shorts or skirts that were fingertip length, and it had to be paired with a collared button down shirt. I think that my high school was going for the whole preppy vibe, but it didn’t always read that way to outsiders.
Heading into college, I was so stuck on what to wear everyday. This was the first time that I had complete freedom in terms of dressing for class. I could go the nike shorts and big t-shirt route, I could go the jeans and cute top route, or I could go for the casual and comfy route. To be honest, picking out my outfit for the first day of college was really intimidating and I definitely had to consult my roommate that I had barely even known for 2 days.
On my first day of college freshman year, I decided to go with some seersucker shorts and a plain white v neck top. I paired this with some Jack Rogers, typical me. Every year following, I’ve followed the same trend- some type of cotton shirt with casual but cute shorts. Wait, I take that back. Junior year, I think we had to dress up a little bit so I wore a denim skirt. Wow, I can’t believe that was just a year ago! It seems like forever ago!
Hello senior year!
For senior year, guess what I’m going to wear (pretend that you didn’t see the pictures yet)!!! Yes- shorts and a cute top!!! I’m so predictable…
On the first day of college, it honestly doesn’t really matter what you’re going to wear. I tend to like to dress cute and true to myself to make a good first impression. I also think that it’s important that your outfit embodies your style and your personality. Me, I love the color pink, I love bows, and I enjoy preppy styles, so therefore this outfit is perfect for my first day of school outfit!
Since I am in my classes that are specifically for my major, I think that this year I have to dress up a little more, so I might end up wearing a dress or a skirt of some sort for the first day. If I did have a free go at what to wear, I would definitely be wearing what you see in the pictures!
This is just an idea for you for what to wear for the first day of school! I promise it’s not worth stressing over. It’s just an outfit. Wear something that you are confident in, something that you are comfortable in, and something that showcases who you are!
Oh, also make sure to get a first day of school picture for your mom or grandma!
Happy back to school season, y’all!
